It’s the game taking the internet by storm. This game has been around since 2018 and gained popularity on game streaming website Twitch. Among Us is very similar to popular party games like Mafia or One Night Ultimate Werewolf.
You’ll team up with a group of other players to complete tasks and ensure your survival on your spaceship while taking down the elusive Imposters, whose goal is to kill as many players as possible. Hilarity will ensue during the games meetings where players accuse each other and try to make sense of all the confusion.
Play online or local with 4 to 10 players. You can choose to play with others online or via local multiplayer. Get randomly assigned one of two roles, Crewmate or Imposter. As the crewmate, you will work with your other crewmates to create tasks and weed out imposters. Work to complete your tasks and pay attention!
Report anything suspicious you may see or even dead bodies! Communicate with others in the in game discussion sessions, determine the imposter and throw them out of the ship! Complete all your tasks to win. As the imposter, your goal is to sabotage or kill the crewmates, fake tasks and in general wreak havoc.
Do your best to look normal and divert any attention to others. Convince the crewmates of your innocence and get them to turn against each other. Win when all the crewmates are dead.
This is a great game if you have a large group of friends. The group meeting sessions where you try to sort out the imposters from the real crew members can become hilarious as people attempt to remember what tasks they’ve done, who they’ve seen and defend themselves. The games are quick and it’s easy to hop in and learn.
Who you play with here is really important however. While match made online play is workable and can be fun, arguably the best experience is had with several people who you know have microphones that sound decent, and will communicate. It can be challenging to find really large groups of people to play with but when you do, it’s great.
There is a learning curve, not just in becoming a good liar but in the maps and how to do the tasks. Once you clear this hump though, the game really takes off and becomes a deep experience of nervously eyeing all your friends and trying your best not to seem suspicious.
This game doesn’t do anything too new when compared against other games like Werewolf or Mafia but it does make those game experiences much more approachable with a mobile version. The mechanics work well and the game is streamlined enough to make things fun.
